Opera Fatale! in Weber Music Hall, UMD, Duluth, MN
Opera Fatale! was created in collaboration with Alice Pierce, artistic director, Opera Studio, Department of Music, Art & Design students and faculty. Digital filmmaking students created black and white composited videos for each part of the story from the script by Alice Pierce. The series of short videos ran between opera scenes, providing a tongue-in-cheek film noir mystery throughout the performance. Joellyn Rock coordinated film noir production design, digital video production, video editing, and performance tech of projections of film noir influenced videos. She also managed students during multi-camera video shoots in Motion and Media Across Disciplines Lab. Post-production work, media management, and final editing of composited chromakey video projects by Rock and her students. Tech of multi-night rehearsals and performances by Rock. Performed in December 2014.
Story Hour Concert in Weber Music Hall, UMD, Duluth, MN
Story Hour Concert Bartok’s “Village Dance” projections were created in collaboration with Jean R Perrault, artistic director, UMD Symphony Orchestra, Department of Music, and Art & Design students. Digital art students remixed folk patterns with their paintings and drawings to create collage backgrounds and slideshow projections for Bartok’s “Village Dance (from Two Pictures) Op. 10”. Dancer Rebecca Katz-Harwood improvised folk dance movements used in the silhouettes for the Village Dance projections. Lucia in Flight was created in collaboration with Alice Pierce, artistic director, Opera Studio, Department of Music, Art & Design students.
